PLTU tana aiki ta hanyar amfani da mai (kamar kwal, mai, ko iskar gas) don dumama ruwa a cikin tukunyar jirgi har sai ya koma tururi. Ana amfani da wannan tururin mai ƙarfi don juya turbin da aka haɗa da janareta don samar da wutar lantarki.

2. Tashar Wutar Lantarki Mai Amfani da Iskar Gas (PLTG)
Tashoshin wutar lantarki masu amfani da iskar gas (PLTGs) suna amfani da iskar gas don samar da wutar lantarki ga injin turbin gas. Ana matse iska da iskar gas a dumama su a cikin ɗakin ƙonawa, sannan a sake su da matsin lamba mai yawa don juya injin turbin. Wannan injin turbin yana tura janareta don samar da wutar lantarki. Sau da yawa ana amfani da injin turbin wutar lantarki masu amfani da iskar gas (PLTGs) saboda tsarinsu ya fi inganci kuma ya dace da muhalli fiye da injin turbin wutar lantarki mai amfani da kwal (PLTUs).

3. Cibiyar Wutar Lantarki ta Ruwa (PLTA)
Cibiyoyin samar da wutar lantarki na ruwa (PLTA) suna amfani da makamashin motsi na ruwa mai gudana, kamar daga koguna ko madatsun ruwa, don tuƙa turbines. Yayin da ruwa ke ratsa turbines, makamashin motsi yana canzawa zuwa makamashin inji, wanda daga nan janareta ke mayar da shi makamashin lantarki. Cibiyoyin samar da wutar lantarki na ruwa (PLTA) tushen makamashi ne mai sabuntawa wanda ba ya cutar da muhalli.

4. Tashar Wutar Lantarki ta Nukiliya (PLTN)
Tashoshin samar da wutar lantarki na nukiliya suna amfani da martanin fission na nukiliya don samar da zafi, wanda daga nan ake amfani da shi don dumama ruwa da samar da tururi. Ana amfani da wannan tururin don tuƙa injinan turbines da samar da wutar lantarki. Duk da cewa ana jayayya game da haɗarin radiation da sharar rediyo, tashoshin samar da wutar lantarki na nukiliya suna da fa'idodi dangane da inganci da ikon samar da wutar lantarki mai yawa.

5. Cibiyar Wutar Lantarki ta Rana (PLTS)
Cibiyoyin samar da wutar lantarki ta hasken rana (PLTS) suna amfani da allunan hasken rana da aka yi da ƙwayoyin photovoltaic don mayar da hasken rana kai tsaye zuwa wutar lantarki. Wannan tsarin yana da fa'idar samar da hayakin kore ba tare da amfani da tushen makamashi mara iyaka ba. 6. Tashar Wutar Lantarki ta Iska (PLTA)
Cibiyoyin samar da wutar lantarki na ruwa suna amfani da injinan iska da aka sanya a wasu wurare don kama iska da kuma mayar da makamashinta zuwa wutar lantarki. Makamashin iska shi ma wani nau'i ne na makamashin da ke da alaƙa da muhalli. Duk da haka, samun iska mai dorewa yana haifar da ƙalubale ga amfani da shi.

7. Cibiyar Wutar Lantarki ta Ƙasa (PLTP)
Cibiyoyin samar da wutar lantarki na ƙasa (PLTPs) suna amfani da zafi daga cikin ƙasa don samar da wutar lantarki. Yawanci ana samun wannan makamashin zafi ta hanyar rijiyoyin da aka haƙa waɗanda suka isa ga layin ƙasa mai zafi a ƙarƙashin saman. – Tashar Wutar Lantarki ta Hydroelectric, Micro Hydroelectric Power Plant, Geothermal Power Plant: Ana amfani da makamashin zafi ko na lantarki kai tsaye don tuƙa injin turbine.

3. Injin turbine
– PLTU, PLTG, PLTN, PLTA, PLTP: Ana amfani da tururi ko ruwa mai ƙarfi don juya turbine da aka haɗa da janareta.
– Cibiyar Wutar Lantarki ta Ruwa, Cibiyar Wutar Lantarki ta Ruwa: Ana amfani da kwararar ruwa don juya turbines na ruwa.
– Wutar Lantarki ta Ruwa: Ana amfani da makamashin iska don juya injinan iska.

4. Samar da Wutar Lantarki
Lokacin da injin turbin ya juya, janareta da aka haɗa zai canza makamashin injiniya zuwa makamashin lantarki ta hanyar shigar da wutar lantarki.

Duk da cewa fasahar samar da wutar lantarki ta yanzu ta ci gaba sosai, akwai ƙalubale da dama da suka rage, kamar dogaro da man fetur, fitar da iskar gas mai gurbata muhalli, rashin ingantaccen aiki, da kuma tsadar saka hannun jari. Saboda hanyoyin samar da makamashi masu sabuntawa kamar hasken rana da iska suna faruwa akai-akai (ba koyaushe ake samun su ba), haɓaka fasahar adana makamashi yana da matuƙar muhimmanci. Ana haɓaka manyan batura da sauran fasahar adana makamashi don tabbatar da ingantaccen samar da wutar lantarki.
